    Nobody's using Blu-Ray...

Seriously?!?! Have you been Zombitizied by Steve?

I have been highly critical of Apple of late - their "Pro?" stuff - harware and software - gets further and further behind the competition all the time.

And I always wait for them, because of these stupid rumors. Will this one finally be accurate?

Maybe the certificate is legitimate, but I think the original short form would have been more convincing than a pristine copy of the long one. I like Obama, but I loathe his extreme liberalism.

No public health coverage, extending mideast wars, extending corporate tax cuts and Bush tax rates in general, actually lowering taxes in general to a historic low, supporting and campaigning for conservative democrats like Blanche Lincoln, Arlen Spector, etc., cabinet filled with big corporate players, didn't fight for serious Wall St. reform, didn't fight for second stimulus, dragging feet on gay rights and civil rights in general.

    Where's the extremism?

I'd like to predict an unanticipated show stopper - a new Mac ultraportable that weighs something like 2.2 lbs and is around the thickness of a magazine. The new notebook would not be breaking new ground - there are intel PC notebooks that fit this / similar descriptions, for example the Q2010 offering by Fijitsu (illustrated in Q2010 pics that follow). http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/13/0,1425,sz=1&i=134331,00.jpg http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/Resources/35/2097637765.jpg But, new gound or not, it would be an exciting addition to the MacBook Pro line up. It would also be fun to have a product like that to catch everyone off guard.

I do have a bit of keynote fever. How do they do it? I'm not going to buy anything for a few years, and yet I can't wait to see what is unveiled. This time around, the fever pitch seems more acute than it's been since perhaps MWSF 2003 (when the Alu 12 and 17" PBs came out) - even more anticipation than then because of all of the new products expected. This is also the time when MR really shines - this is the core of the site: rumors about Macs - I love it.

People will loose interest in Apple iPhones with so many other new releases coming out on a regular basis.

Android phones could have octo-core processors and laser hologram projection and the iPhone would still be a better overall user experience (with a vastly-better app catalog).

I'd rather see Apple focus on the software at this point. How about fixing the craptastic notification system already???

I don't get nearly as many dropped calls when switching between towers like I did when I used T-Mobile and Cingular.
You know as well as I do that has to do with the signal, not whether it is Code division or time division. If you claim differently, show me reputable references.

Lack of Flash support is the achilles heel of iPad. I hope Jobs gets off his high horse and relents.
Every day that Flash doesn't live on smartphones and tablets (all manufacturers, not just Apple), more content moves from Flash to HTML5. The relevance of Flash decreases a little bit every single day.

I've been an iPod touch owner since 2007 and I've adapted quite well. I also have an iPad and the Skyfire web browser will do Flash movie conversion.

Lack of Flash on portable devices = not a big deal to Joe Consumer

clock speed isn't everything. workload dependant of course.

You are right. However, you try to tell consumers "Well we are moving to 2.4Ghz chips" after you just had 2.66Ghz and 3.0Ghz chips. It isnt going to work.

If today, Dell decided to move there whole line back to 1Ghz processors, nobody would buy. Unfortunetly the Ghz myth is a strong as its ever been. Taking a step backward is not an option.

Another example would be this: Today Apple decides to go back to plain, bulky ipods, no color, no photos. Just monochrome and music. Would anybody go for it? Probably not. You just can't step back in tech today.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure the octo core would out perform the current quad anyday given the right apps. But when people see that Ghz number go down...

Fair enough. Now let's move along. ;)
You guys move on without me, please. I regret that I posted to this thread, because I said I wanted to post about technical topics only. It's best for me to post where I can do plenty of good. So I'll go back to the Mac Programming forum where I won't react emotionally.

    Perfect day for this news....

I have a new 13" MBA sitting here at my desk unopened...just dropped off from FedEx today. I'm debating whether or not to just return it and wait for the refresh or be happy with what I got.

I'm a very light user..web, email, iTunes, sync iPhone and iPad. Do I really need the Sandy Bridge power..probably not but I dont want to have the "old not so shiny ball" come June (as the rumors suggest).

Any help from the MR community is greatly appreciated!

Don't get your hopes up, as any rumour is just a speculation. Apple may or may not release any updated version of the MBA very soon, but it can all depend. If you really want power, you could sell your Air for a MBP, which came out only couple months ago.

this would be smart because as of right now the mac book pro doesnt WOW me over the macbook. Do you think the "core 3" will also have the same pin structure as the 2's?Core 3 is in 2009. Many things will be very different by then. You wouldn't want to upgrade a 2006 Mac in 2009.Not a chance in hell, give up the idea of upgrading your Mac already

The newer Meroms that are to come out Q2 2007 will be based off a completely new socket. With Santa Rosa to boot!

Thats great news. I was wondering if a 6 week old machine was going to be left in the dust by the new chips. Santa Rosa april 2007?

Another sad person who is worried about their machines not being top of the line :-\

Its a computer, you should expect your machine to be superceded by another model in a matter of weeks / months.

Apple are a business and not to make you feel, somehow, superior due to your computer.

To be honest i dont really care anymore. As it is, im leaning away from Apple portables and moving to their desktops. Maybe just maybe if the 15" MBP sports a 16x DL superdrive, Magnetic latch Firewire 800 and maybe an extra USB port i may consider. But to be honest the MacPro is looking like a better candidate for me. My PB is fine my mobile computing needs, its time for a powerful workhorse thats more stable and reliable, namely, the MacPro

    Clovertown is a 64-bit CPU.

Ask your PC-loving IT guy if he uses Windows XP64 and more than 4 gigabytes of RAM. If not, then 32-bit processors are apparently okay for him, too.

    hee hee - thanks.

80%* of potential purchasers won't have access to LTE for at least another year from then. Given that 3G was added only after it was widely available, why would Apple take such a risk with the huge numbers of June/July iPhone users coming to the end of their contracts for such a minority market?

[*made up statistic, but I bet it's not far wrong! :D ]

Because this isn't the same market when Apple first introduced the iPhone and then, later, the 3G version. There is a lot more competition now and intense pressure on Apple to stay ahead of the curve. That absolutely means getting the newest, bleeding edge technology into the iPhone before the competition.

I think this was because Woolworth (Australian supermarket giant) applied for a blanket trademark that allows it to apply it's logo on anything - especially competing electronic goods, computers, music players, and branded phones. (I'm not saying it's right, just surfacing some more details)

    P.

I think you are correct. Still ridiculous, IMHO. The Woolworth logo was a fancy W.

As for your theoretical 24GHz processor, such a thing is simply not possible with today's technology.

Just stating 'I knew that' I just used it as an example. Chundles gets confused easily so I have to make things simple. Hi Chundles :D

Not a glimpse of the Finder...!

Here, here. I have been a very happy Mac fan for several years now, but the Finder is a POS. Although specifically mentioning a new Finder might be considered acknowledgment that it stinks, I think Steve could couch it in favorable language. Bottom line, Leopard better FTFF.

The whole birther thing just confirms my belief that these people are born with a total lack of a sense of shame. This "layers" nonsense is stupid enough, but we all know it's going to continue (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42786288/ns/politics-decision_2012/) far beyond even that.

The publisher of an upcoming book questioning the circumstances of President Barack Obamas birth took credit Wednesday for fueling conspiracy theories about the presidents origins, saying he paid for an army of private detectives in Hawaii and provided information about the issue to Donald Trump.

Joseph Farah, the founder and chief executive officer of World Net Daily, a conspiracy-mongering website with its own publishing arm, also said he has no intention of standing down despite the White Houses release of the so-called long form birth certificate showing that Obama was born in the state of Hawaii on Aug. 4, 1961, as he always has said.

Im not apologizing for nothing, a defiant Farah said in a telephone interview with NBC News, insisting there are still questions about Obamas citizenship aside from where he was born.

The comments by Farah underscore Obamas observation Wednesday that hard-core birthers are unlikely to be persuaded by any evidence, no matter how compelling....

Farah, who still believes there was foul play associated with the death of Clinton White House lawyer Vince Foster, would seem to be a perfect example....

In fact, Farah said, Obamas citizenship, not his birth, is actually the principal theme of World Net Dailys upcoming book by Jerome Corsi titled, Wheres the Birth Certificate? The Case that Barack Obama is not Eligible to be President. Corsi first garnered headlines in 2004 as one of the architects of the so-called Swift Boat attacks on John Kerrys war record....

(Farah) insisted the document must still be more fully analyzed before he accepts it as authentic. I think it will take us a little while to examine this and determine if its legitimate....What a rube. And paired with Jerome "Of" Corsi, yet. :D Now there's a beacon of light and truth.
