Does this mean we won't be seeing iTunes 7.0? I mean if they were releasing a new iTunes wouldn't they make the changes on the new release?

I might be getting confused here - but isn't the music store just a web thingy and not part of the software? i.e. store and media player distinct, though interlinked

Annoyed by Apple? I'm sure Apple is annoyed by all the people who are saying that Apple doesn't know how to make phones, especially when the problem they're getting flak from is also reproduced on other phones just as easilly, but no other companies are getting **** on by the public and media for also having this issue? Why is it ONLY Apple that gets dumped on?

Because we love Apple and just use Nokia phones, who cares about BlackBerry, except when someone with a patent almost shut them down completely in America. In the end Apple with ONE ONLY PHONE MODEL IS DOING INCREDIBLE, who can say the same?

Iphone 4 is not perfect but it sweet that for sure! :D

This is a very entertaining thread that is showing many different sides of the macrumors members.

That being said, we are ALL unethical at some point in time and we ALL have varying interpretations for "ethical" behavior. Philosophers have debated for thousands of years to answer the question "what is the right way to act?" Thinking that there IS an answer is superfluous, even more so on an internet forum.

That being said, obviously you got a break and you're happy. You're the only one who ultimately has to determine if you did the right thing because honestly, we on the macrumors forums are NOT realistically being affected by this random act (if this were a systematic thing or we were making laws that would be different) and it is your conscience that matters.

However, PERSONALLY, given that I had already budgeted out the money for the iPad before buying it I would make a small donation (maybe $5-$25) to Japan (you'll still be making a deal). That's just me however, feel free to do what you want with the extra money.

Now: corporate contributions are legal money laundering operations. If you follow the money, I pay for goods which go into company funds which are used to contribute to buy Republican candidates who are dedicated to passing corporate-friendly laws that make my air dirtier and my food unhealthier, and that lower my standard of living until they finally ship my job to another country. Nice racket they have going. Has anybody ever noticed that the well never dries of money to buy off our government? I just love watching them cry about regulation; very classy.

Almost took the words right out of my mouth. Anyone who doesn't realize the hypocrisy in the original statement has their head in the sand.

    Without question, banned from CES.

It costs companies a small fortune to attend and display at a show like this, would not be surprised if someone brought a suit against them.

    Totally unprofessional and unacceptable!

I will never buy an AMD computer again, especially in a laptop. AMDs are very hot processors and they require big fans(I learn that from my bro's Compaq), which make them thick and heavy.

It would be best for me if we could of kept PowerPC, developed a lower powerconsuming but stil powerful G5, or Xenon(chip in XBOX 360). But intel is still got...PPC for LIFE

I love reading this, suddenly half of the forum is a network specialist and knows what Apple will and will not do. Of course you can't forget the Verizon's network will fail just because all you specialists say so. Oh and the LTE network is only available in limited areas...gotta start somewhere...

I actually claimed to know little to nothing technical about LTE or cell networks. I was stating what I had been told and was making opinionated judgements based on my own logic.

The only way to remove the cache after 4.3.3 will be to disable location services. They wont have poor location service performance, they will have none.

Yes, they did. They encouraged it and called no one. This went on for a very long time too. Some of you need to go watch the video before you comment. I fixed the link. You will not believe what you see.

    well that is another story.
If all they did was just call 911 and say nothing then I would of been fine with it. Encouraging the attackers is another story.

I know for me personally as soon as I got over the "Is this really happening question" my cell would of been out with a 911 call. A cop should be there pretty quickly.

I see some employee's being fired for the very least.

Insecurity...? The only thing I'm insecure about at the moment is whether you are for real or just trolling...

Who says we're best at anything. It's not a contest...

Up here in the Nordic countries we're a small, fairly uniform, very rich, well-educated (to a degree - pun intended), technological advanced population. The marked might be small, but it's still a nice little marked.

Do you honestly see Apple pull out of a similar marked, let say New Your city, just because an unresolved quarrel with the local government...?

You New York is New York, part of the USA.

Saying that you are small, rich and well educated... And then you even say, you are technologically advanced?

Have you been to Singapore, Kuwait, Japan? I can name a few more places, but let's keep the list short.

You are not very technologically advanced you know... Well, again, compared to Africa you are...

Look, it seems, you are not seeing the overall picture, only what you see in front of you... And in this case it is Apple... But that is not all there is...

For me, I do see the iPad (and actually the App Store) as a change in computing. By removing the complex processes that we go through in a computer (eg instead of downloading an app, moving it into a folder, deleting the dmg its a simple case of downloading the app), the iPad is changing our computer experience by simplifying it to the extent that it's only the part we want to use rather than need to use.

But that is not redefining "Computing" or computers at all. It's simply making them easier to use. If you want it to absolutely be about redefining something, talk about usability, not computing.

The iPad is still receiving network/USB input for that app, processing the data and eventually storing it. It is still doing the very same concept of computing we were doing 50 years ago on massive mainframes. There is no shift in "computing".

You again failed to address this point in your quest to see redefinition where there is none. You're thinking at way to precise of a level to even talk about computers/computing.

The iPad and the App Store process have the potential to kickstart and similarly drastic change in computing as moving from a line based OS to a GUI.

Again, no change in "Computing" there. You're talking about usability once again. Line based or GUI based, it was all about taking input, processing it, storing the resulting data or outputting it. Be it with printf() statements or XCreateWindow() and then drawing to it.

The concept of computing is the same in both line based or GUI based interface. The output mechanism is different, the input device is different.

In this case, "input is not input": a GUI opened up computers to more than just programmers

You have not proven your hypothesis of "input is not input". It very much is. Clicking and typing are both types of input. I challenge you to prove otherwise.

but increasingly I think the computer is moving away from the idea of a desktop PC.

The computer has never been so intimate with Desktop PCs. Every desktop PC is a computer, not every computer is a desktop PC. Again, last 50 years of computing has seen tremendous boost in computer usage in about everything. The desktop PC has been one small segment of computer usage and of the very large computing industry. Embedded systems is another. Mainframe systems are still very much alive. Thin client computing is an idea of the 70s that saw a come back in the 90s with Sun's push ("The network is the computer"). Today, it's all about "mobile" devices, which are a type of embedded system.

I think you're just very ignorant (not meant as an insult, just a casual observation based on your replies) of what computing and computers actually are that you see a "new segment" as a massive paradigm shift. There is no shift. Again :

    Input. Process. Output. Store.

There is no more to it than that and until you change this very simple definition, you have not shifted any paradigms in computing.

Untrue. The iPhone is the only phone affected this way.

    I laughed at this.

So you mean to say that holding any other phone will never change the reception at all? HA!! Have you read your cell phone's user guide? On one of the first pages they have a diagram of how to hold the phone so as not to lose as much reception. Get a life, and stop calling me fanboy (assuming you're one of "those" people) because I can enjoy a perfectly usable phone more than you can.

The grain texture on the screen compared to the hand is a sign of photoshop.

However, despite the probable fake picture, it could be a possible product since rumors of it were going around for a year or such. The bigger screen would make sense: borders are wasted space.

I am curious when they will begin to limit the borders on iMacs. That chin has gone on too long.
The first picture is fake, that's beyond the question. Look at the iCal icon it's much too wide. From this angle, it should be rather taller than wider. The other icons look out of shape too.

BTW, there is no 'RIGHT' to collective bargaining....
Collective bargaining is a legislative privilege granted by friendly law makers in some localities which can be quickly and abruptly eliminated (as you've all just observed.)[/QUOTE]

It's interesting, AFAICT, the courts have mainly avoided creating a 'right' to collective bargaining and have remaindered this structure to legislative acts like the NLRB.

Public unions are idiotic. Imagine a private sector union where the union members themselves were able to contribute to the election and vote for the individual whom they'd be bargaining against. BRILLIANT! It's a conflict of interest - straight up.

A conflict of interest? I disagree, this is akin to being on the hiring committee for your bossa common corporate and university structure. Extend the logic of this and you're effectively arguing that no public employee, from police officer to NHS doctor should be able to vote.

What's important about the conflict in a conflict of interest is whether or not the union's interest runs counter to the government's, which is at the very least arguable.

Lee, my wife is a teacher. I'm quite aware of how much they make. For the record, they aren't required to have masters degrees (where do you get this stuff?). Most importantly, without thuggish unions, good teachers like my wife would make far more money than they do today, while the bad ones would make less or be fired.

How? Without the union, bad teachers would presumably be fired, but how would this raise wages directly or indirectly?

Have you seen the movie 'Waiting for Superman' by chance, Lee?

Many have argued that this is a piece of agitprop and is not a fair documentary.

Bill Gates accurately pointed out the failure of allowing the unionization of public employees and the incredible damage it's causing our state budgets. Thankfully, people like him are willing to look at the facts and report honestly on the situation instead of pretending like the government can produce miracles out of thin air or that money grows on trees.

I'm not so sure you should declare the genius of Gates on a Mac forum. ;)

Are you aware of the number of school districts that have unions and those that do not and what the test scores for ACT/SAT are? I'm wondering if there's at least a correlative connection between the two. Adding in the variable of education spending might also be useful.

Might have to go to mass media complete.
