I'll go against the grain and say keep what you have.
You stated you want to cut down on costs, so unless you are a business doing some funky accounting tricks, your equipment is already paid for. And it sounds like since you do Apple dev as a profession, you may kick yourself in the future for having sold the Mac Pro for a ****** Windows box when you pick up another contract.
I also do contract work, and wouldn't dream of selling my personal equipment I use for business unless it was literally a "sell the Mac Pro or lose my apartment" kind of deal.

I think it should stay,
first if there was no title communicating his banned/time out status. Then some folks will wonder what happened to him.
Secondly, those who complained about his/her behavior will not get any direct feedback, causing frustration and further divisiveness
Thirdly, it can be used as a lesson to others as they'll witness the consequences of negative behavior

I have Abobe Master Collection CS3.3 - I still get updates for that, despite CS4. And for MS Office Win XP etc. Hell - I even get updates on Apps I've bought.
 Yeah, you get Adobe Acrobat updates.
Don't buy an app for what it will be, get it for what it is. It's just stupid to do otherwise.

Boinc on Osx 10.57 doesn't crunch with the Nvidia 9400m?
While I was trying out Win 7 I installed Boinc and Seti@home was crunching with the cpu and gpu.

At the moment im just using the iMac G4 as a print server and music player in the kitchen (1GHz, 1GB, USB2, 802.11G) however im toying with the idea of turning it into a backup server and was wondering if anyone had any insight into the best way to go about it?
At the minute i have my main computer (an intel imac) in my bedroom with a number of external drives for storage which backs up to a Drobo using Time Machine. The problem i have is that the Drobo is way too loud for the room.
My first idea is to put the Drobo in the kitchen attached to the iMac G4 and backup over the wifi (as my Airport Extreme is in living room) my main issue with it is this and a full backup is around 2.5TB which would take over a month
is anyone out there using such an old computer for this sort of thing? and do you have any tips? Money is also an issue at the moment so i cant go out and buy something quieter! :o Any help appreciated
I think you answered your own question on this one. You either have to deal with the noise, deal with the slow transfers over wireless or put in a wired network. The wired network is not that expensive if you do it yourself. The most expensive part is the router.
I personally recommend not doing this sort of thing (everyone thinks a server is cool but most have no idea how to use them) but if you really want to do this you need a wired network.
Cheers

Noticed this today, When playing with 1 of my 4 360 controllers I noticed that on two of them the bottom grey plastic bit is slightly darker but shiny and on the other two the grey bit was lighter but matte. Is this to do with the different models or what? Am I just seeing things?
You're not seeing things, the plastic on the initial models was different. It doesn't mean anything.

Does anyone know of embroidery software where you can CREATE/digitize your own designs on a MAC for an embroidery machine. I've only been able to find software for PC users or software where all you can do is adjust colors, size etcetera.
thank you!

Not yet, as the 2 hasn't been jailbroken and apple hates filesystems.

Some macs (I think including yours) don;t support hard drives any bigger than 127GB.
I think if you put the drive in a firewire or usb external enclosure, the enclosure chipset will take care of that, so you can hook up a 300GB drive if you want.

I don't have a 120. but I have a 2000 and an emate 300 that are both in excellent working order. The eMate actually looks brand new, with no scratches and the original stylus -- and the original battery still holds a charge!

I don't suppose that'll be of much comfort to anybody except the driver, who I imagine was the first to die...
Maybe not, if he hung on to the wheel and had a seat-belt on.
The passengers dumped onto the right side windows would not have been so lucky.
Seat belts save lives. On all airplanes, why not on busses.

I received my ip4 replacement today. It was physically worse than my 10 month old one. Dent on the antennea band as if someone dropped it. Plastic part of bezzle was coming loose from glass. I know some replacements won't be exactly new but I just couldn't except it. Still waiting on a call back from case manager.
Ya the current 5K I'm using came with scratches all over the band. Can't wait for my brand new phone from advanced replacement.

All these posts and not one mentions MacBreak Weekly…
On many of the old episodes ( from the beginning up to about 1.5 years ago) he was a regular panelist. I think that's a much easier way to understand a little more about what he does (context, if you will) and his personality.
That said, he is an acquired taste! :p

yea but i dont want to wait another 3 weeks for that deal to come besides i dont need an ipod.
Yeah if I wasn't on a tight budget i'd buy mine already, but even though i'm not going to use the iPod, paying taxes (~$33) for it in Canada and reselling it for just under Apple's price you'll end up getting the iMac for near $300 cheaper including the student discount.

I have a Macbook (http://www.apple-history.com/?page=gallery&model=mb_mid_10&sort=date&performa=off&order=ASC). I broke my HDD several months back (it was 10.6.x) and replaced it with my brother's old HDD (10.5.8). From then on when I turned it on, it would chime, and go to a black screen. On the black screen it would show what it was doing. (I.E - Turned Airport on, No ethernet connected, turned on the processor, et cetera). I just got Snow Leopard again, I was lazy, and when I install it runs fine until the restart. It says "45 Minutes Left" and "Upgrade will resume on restart." It goes to restart the Mac, comes to the black screen start up, turns everything on, and does not continue the upgrade. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Quite an upgrade? The page has almost no information anymore and only one picture of the store that doesn't really show what's inside.
If you click around the old one it even has a price list of stuff for Newtons. (Interestingly, the imac stand used to be a Netwon stand!!) :D
Yea, thinking about this, the old version of that page is way better and probably did a much better job at convincing people that they had to go see the Apple HQ store!

hi i need some advice.
i currently own a powermac with these specs:
dp 2.5ghz
160 HDD
4.5g RAM
6800ultra 256mbs
dvd burner 8x
TIGER...etc.
now i do a lot of video editing and animation. should i sell now, and get the dual dual cores when they come out. hoping they arrive within the next couple weeks?
at the moment im using my pc for a project so it won't hurt too much to not have a mac. However, would the cost of getting a new dual dual core(cross fingers), and specing it nicely, be worth it all the trouble? Or is there really no point in upgrading, becuase the dp 2.5 will still hold up?
if the new powermacs include ddr2, is that compatible with current ddr found in the powermacs? could i sell my current machine with 1.5g and keep the 3g for the new machine?
well any advice would be awesome.
thanks
Keep what you have.

I think you better ask in the Ubuntu Forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/). I always find a solution to my problems with Ubuntu there.
